Tyla, a South African sensation, has achieved another milestone by reaching 1 billion Spotify streams for her hit single ‘Water’.
The lead single from her self-titled debut album, which was released on July 28, 2023, has been a huge global success.
Tyla is now only the second African artist to reach this milestone, following Rema’s 2024 global smash hit ‘Calm Down’ featuring Selena Gomez.
The South African star is also the first African female lead artist to have a song with one billion Spotify streams.
The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100, and the remix featuring Travis Scott peaked at number seven after 29 weeks on the chart.
‘Water’ catapulted the singer to global fame and earned her multiple awards, including MTV VMAs, MTV EMA, BET, and a Grammy for Best African Song Performance.
Tyla has become one of Africa’s most successful exports, with her music gaining a global following.
Guest appearances on her debut album ‘TYLA’ included Nigerian Grammy winner Tems, Jamaican star Skillibeng, and American hitmaking rapper Gunna.
The album received praise and spent 15 weeks on the Billboard 200, peaking at number 24.
She also scored her second Billboard Hot 100 single, ‘Push 2 Start,’ which was recently remixed by Jamaican Dancehall icon Sean Paul.
