Abdullahi Muhammad Ahmad, a young Nigerian graduate, has explained why he visited a company uninvited with his CV.

The 23-year-old, who allegedly graduated with a 4.89 CGPA in Political Science from Al-Qalam University in Katsina, stated that his decision was motivated by repeated rejections and a lack of responses from employers.

In an exclusive interview with Legit.ng, Ahmad revealed that after sending out numerous job applications via email without success, his brother encouraged him to take a more direct approach by physically visiting companies and introducing himself to potential employers.

“I was conducting research, looking for any available organizations or companies that hire policy research analysts or research assistants.

“I have made several applications and sent emails with my CV seeking employment, but to no avail. My brother advised me to take a different approach, to physically go to the organization and request a meeting with the manager to discuss my skills, career interests, and how I would be able to bring new ideas and enthusiasm to their organization,” he said.

Ahmad paid a visit to a Kano-based company whose name he did not disclose. Fortunately, he had already met the manager, which allowed him to secure a brief meeting.

Though the company did not have an immediate opening, they accepted his CV and promised to contact him if one became available.

“The company did not hire me, but they requested my CV and assured me that if a vacant position arose, they would not hesitate to contact me.

“Because the manager was someone I knew before, it was easier for me to describe myself and get my meeting request approved.

“The manager reacted friendly and was impressed with my CV and assured me I would be a good fit for their company and won’t hesitate to contact me.” Ahmad stated.

Despite his best efforts, Ahmad has yet to find work. He indicated a preference for opportunities in Kano or Abuja, where he has family, but is willing to work anywhere in the country.
