The US government has warned that Green Card holders with criminal records risk losing their immigration status and being deported.

This decision reflects the US Embassy’s recent modifications to Nigerian visa policies.

The most recent ruling focuses on those charged with crimes involving dishonesty, fraud, or repulsive behavior.

Furthermore, green card holders may lose their status if they spend more than 12 months outside the United States without sufficient documentation or the intent to continue residency, which is considered abandonment of their permanent resident status.

Furthermore, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has cautioned that lawful permanent residents with prior criminal convictions may risk mandatory detention while seeking to re-enter the country at a port of entry.

Notably, this decision demonstrates the US government’s strong stance to immigration compliance and the implementation of current immigration laws.
