President-elect Donald Trump nominated former Georgia Sen.
David Perdue as ambassador to China amid tense U.S.-China relations.
Trump highlighted Perdue’s extensive business experience, including his leadership roles at Dollar General, Sara Lee, and Reebok, as well as his international expertise from living in Singapore and Hong Kong.
Perdue also served on the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Trump emphasized Perdue’s ability to strengthen U.S.-China relations and implement his strategy for peace in the region.
Perdue, known for his fiscal conservatism and pro-business stance, lost his 2021 re-election bid to Democrat Jon Ossoff and later failed to unseat Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.
