Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan presented 700 computers to Abdul Azeez Attah Memorial College (AAAMCO) in Okene, one of Northern Nigeria’s oldest and most prestigious secondary schools, as part of a major initiative to improve digital education in the state.

The grant is part of the senator’s larger goal of modernizing public education and providing students with the skills they need to succeed in today’s technology-driven world.

Senator Natasha Akpoti emphasised the significance of integrating Nigeria’s school system with global digital learning trends during the official transfer ceremony.

“To educate a mind is to enlighten a mind, and enlightened minds build strong societies and economies,” according to her. “With the rise of artificial intelligence and robotics, denying our children access to modern technology is a disservice.”

She noted that the initiative would soon be expanded to additional public schools in Kogi Central, emphasizing that access to digital tools in education should be a fundamental right, as it is in Rwanda and Ghana.

HRH Alhaji Okatahi Mamman, the Ohi of Okene, praised the project as a forward-thinking measure and urged schoolchildren to use computers wisely. “This is a forward-thinking investment in our future,” the royal patriarch said.

Mr. Paul Amoh, Principal of AAAMCO, also spoke at the event and expressed his gratitude, noting that the school had already undergone significant improvements as a result of Senator Natasha’s previous interventions, such as the construction of a one-kilometer internal road, classroom renovations, and solar-powered streetlights.

“She is not just giving us devices, she is giving us a future,” he told me. “This is a major leap toward becoming a fully smart school.”

Engr. Yusuf Momohjimoh, National Secretary of the school’s Old Boys Forum, appreciated the initiative, describing it as a catalyst for educational and community growth. He promised that the alumni association would help protect and maintain the devices.

“It’s about more than computers. “It’s about preparing our children and community for the future,” he explained. AAAMCO, established in the 1920s, has produced several noteworthy personalities, including former Military President General Ibrahim Babangida, among others.
