Mzee Ernesto Muinuchi Kapinga, a Tanzanian, has disclosed that he has 20 wives, 104 children, and 144 grandchildren.
In an interview with Afrimax, his wives explained that they do not feel jealous because they care for all of the children as if they were their own.
According to Mzee Kapinga, his father influenced his decision to have a large family, telling him that their family was too small and encouraging him to grow it.
“My father told me our clan is small, I want you to expand it” he said in part.
Reflecting on his early days as a parent, he revealed that his father warmly welcomed his first grandchild, but he also had a strong suspicion that his son would not stop at one wife and child.
Mr. Mzee stated: “I was a young man then, I had just married my first wife in 1961, My first child was born in 1962 but my father told me one wife was not enough our family must grow and so i listened”
He revealed that after his father discussed it with him, he quickly married five women in a matter of years.
He also admitted that he did not even pay their dowries; his father covered the entire cost.
He went on to clarify: “My father paid the dowry for my 5 wives, he wanted to see our family name, endure the rest i added myself my companionship for the strength of the household”
He took on more wives after marrying his first five, eventually reaching a total of 20. Over time, some wives abandoned him, while others died, leaving him with 16 wives in his home.
Mzee shared his life experience with 20 wives and 104 children, saying, “I have 16 wives, 104 children, and 144 grandchildren. Life here is simple but fulfilling.”
“My father wanted a legacy and I agreed.”
He also revealed that he did not marry just any woman—seven of his wives are sisters, born to the same mother and father.
