Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has firmly stated that Massachusetts State Police will not assist federal agencies in deporting migrants if President-elect Donald Trump proceeds with mass deportations.
In an interview with MSNBC, Healey, a Democrat, said, “No, absolutely not,” when asked if the state would cooperate with Trump’s deportation plans.
Trump’s immigration agenda, which has been a key focus of his campaign, aims to deport over 11 million undocumented migrants, using tools like the Alien Enemies Act, military deployment, and local police cooperation.
Healey warned that Trump’s plan would face significant opposition, especially in federal courts, and emphasized that states have the authority to resist such policies through regulations, legislation, and other means to protect citizens and uphold democracy.
Trump’s approach to immigration includes reinstating tough border policies from his first administration and reversing policies enacted by President Biden.
He has called for the deportation of undocumented migrants, especially those who have committed crimes, and is committed to mass deportations as part of his broader stance on securing U.S. borders.
Trump has stated that those who enter the country illegally must undergo a vetting process to return, but emphasized that deportations are necessary for national security and safety.
