Israel-seizes-buffer-zone-in-Syrias-Golan-Heights-after-al-Assad-750x375

Israeli forces have taken control of a buffer zone in the Golan Heights, a region established by a 1974 ceasefire agreement with Syria.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the agreement had collapsed due to Syrian troops abandoning their positions.

The move follows Israel’s historical capture of the Golan Heights in 1967, which most of the international community, excluding the U.S., views as occupied Syrian territory.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have deployed troops to ensure security, while emphasizing they are not interfering in Syria’s internal affairs.

Israel has also launched airstrikes in Syria targeting weapons factories to prevent them from falling into the hands of rebel groups.

The IDF is coordinating its actions with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) and has issued warnings to residents in southern Syria.

Meanwhile, Lebanon has reinforced its border troops amid heightened regional tensions.
