“I’m having a terrible season” says Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez acknowledges that this Formula 1 season has been disappointing for him, but he sees hope for redemption at the Mexico City Grand Prix, his home race.

Perez admits his struggles, with no wins and only four podium finishes this year, placing him eighth in the standings. Despite signing a contract extension with Red Bull through 2026, his future with the team is uncertain due to performance clauses and speculation fueled by Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko’s praise of younger drivers.

Perez’s poor performance, including three crashes, has hurt Red Bull’s standing in the constructors’ championship. After a strong start to the season, where he claimed four podium finishes in the first five races, Perez has gone 14 races without a top-three finish.

As he heads to Mexico, Perez hopes to replicate his success from 2021 and 2022, where he podiumed in both races. He remains focused on helping Red Bull and turning his season around, understanding the importance of staying composed and improving results.
