A video making waves on X (formerly Twitter) captures the moment a lecturer at Ekiti State University (EKSU) called a student’s parent during a lecture to report her behavior.
In the video, the lecturer and the student stand in front of the class, with the student handing over her phone.
Seconds later, the lecturer initiates a conversation with the student’s sister, requesting to speak with their parents.
The lecturer is heard saying:
“Good morning, Ma. I am calling on behalf of Akeem Mosunmola. “Do you know her?”
“I am one of her lecturers. Are you the one funding her education at EKSU? If your father is with you, I’d like to talk to him. “I need to report her.”
As the incident progresses, murmurs from students in the background indicate mixed reactions.
After the video went viral, concerned viewers took to the comments section to express their feelings.
See some reactions below:
@flowzki: “this makes no sense tbh … schooling in this country is rubbished by the day by lecturers who think their job is more than teaching in those classes, this ain’t secondary school this is a university .. none of these makes any sense.”
@KinqKudos: “Some students think university is a social club until reality hits. That lecturer did the right thing by informing the girl’s parents. If you’re not serious about school, at least let your sponsors know so they can invest in something else!”
@theonlyolamide: “she’s a good lecturer who wants to see other people’s children succeed in life; some lecturers don’t even care why you come to school. Dem go just Dey look you say eno concern dem. So far say dem go see their salary collect at the end of the month. If u like no come class.”
@Unknownmike11: “If all lecturers are doing like this, protecting students, nothing will go wrong with students in their academic. But some lecturers don’t want students at all.”
@chababy81: “You can’t try that with me. You why some students don’t respect their lectures because they do too much. Can you imagine.”
@NikkiMary278018: “ It must’ve been such an uncomfortable and stressful situation for everyone involved.”
@sulucious: “She did the right thing, because if she has taking the law into her own hands now, you’ll will start saying she should get arrested for it so she did the right things by reporting to the family.”
@Bossman9_: “She could have find a way to counsel her if she doesn’t change then she can invite her parents over and find a way to help her. Taking to her parents infront of everyone is quite embarrassing and not encouraging.”
