Joel Dahmen is at risk of losing his PGA Tour card after receiving a four-shot penalty at the Shriners Children’s Open for having too many clubs in his bag.
Currently ranked No. 124 in the FedEx Cup Fall standings, Dahmen needs to finish in the top 125 to retain his tour status for 2025.
After making pars on the first two holes, Dahmen discovered he had an extra 4-iron on the fourth tee, leading to a self-reported penalty of two strokes for each hole, which turned his pars into double bogeys.
He finished the round at five-over 76, putting him in last place.
Dahmen expressed frustration about the mistake, acknowledging it was a team oversight, and noted the clutter in his bag.
With eight players yet to complete their first rounds, Dahmen faces a tough challenge to move into the top 65 to advance to the weekend, with four fall events remaining after this tournament.
