Barr. Kamoru Ogunlana, Clerk to Nigeria’s National Assembly (CNA), has called for the creation of a legislative drafting manual to improve the quality of the country’s laws.
Ogunlana made the appeal on Monday, March 3, during a meeting with a delegation from the British Parliament at the National Assembly in Abuja.
He believes that such a manual would bring Nigeria’s legislative processes in line with global best practices, thereby improving democratic governance.
He stated that the British delegation’s visit provided an opportunity to discuss governance, economic cooperation, security, and anti-corruption efforts.
“We are eager to learn from your experiences, which can enhance our efforts in building a more robust democratic institution,” he added.
Reflecting on the historical ties between the Nigerian and British Parliaments, Ogunlana emphasized the long-standing collaboration that has shaped Nigeria’s governance structures.
Kate Osamor, the leader of the British delegation, expressed her support for Nigeria’s legislative growth.
