Steven Alderson, a 44-year-old golfer from Australia, recently made history by becoming the first autistic winner on the Golf for the Disabled (G4D) Tour at the Estrella Damm NA Andalucía Masters in Spain.
This remarkable achievement not only marked his debut on the G4D Tour but also showcased his impressive nine-shot victory.
Alderson, affectionately nicknamed “Spud” due to his potato-based diet, shared his emotional journey during a post-win interview, recounting years of bullying that led him to leave school at 15.
His heartfelt reflections resonated with viewers, triggering widespread support and admiration on social media.
Following his victory, Alderson returned to compete in a Pro-Am event in Australia and has been invited to participate in a LIV Golf tournament in February.
He credits his long-time caddie, Trent Blucher, for helping him navigate both the emotional challenges of competition and the pressures of newfound fame.
With plans for the G4D Tour Series Finale in Dubai on the horizon, Alderson is excited about the opportunities ahead and aims to inspire others who have faced bullying.
He encourages those affected to remain resilient and strive to be the better person in the long run.
