Zachary Levi, the star of “Shazam,” recently called on “closeted conservatives” in Hollywood to publicly express their political views, following his own endorsement of former President Trump.
In an Instagram Live session on Sunday, Levi responded to “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg’s assertion that Hollywood is a predominantly “right-leaning town” where few people openly identify as Republicans.
He challenged her statement, noting that she could only name actors like Jon Voight and Dennis Quaid as examples, suggesting that many conservative actors remain silent about their political beliefs.
Levi expressed that numerous individuals in the industry feel intimidated about revealing their support for Trump or conservative values due to the potential repercussions. “They know that there’s ramifications for this kind of s—,” he stated, emphasizing the fear that holds many back from speaking out.
He also argued that the fear of backlash has diminished following the pandemic lockdowns and recent strikes by writers and actors, predicting that industry pressures will soon be “f— gonzo.”
In his message to those hesitant to come forward, Levi urged them to consider making their views known, stating, “It’s now or never.”
While he acknowledged that he wouldn’t pressure anyone to disclose their beliefs, he reassured them that the fears of industry repercussions may not be as significant as they once were.
Levi’s support for Trump became public during an event for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard in September, where he explained his shift in endorsement after RFK Jr. suspended his campaign.
He shared his frustration with the current state of the country, remarking, “We live in a very broken one… hijacked by a lot of people who want to take this place way off the cliff, and we’re here to stop that.”
