A coalition of Ukrainian American organizations, led by the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, is petitioning the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to block SpaceX’s application for more Starlink satellites.
Their concerns include environmental impact and allegations of founder Elon Musk’s ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, which Musk denies.
The group also fears Musk’s business interests may conflict with his advisory role in President-elect Trump’s quasi-official group, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Starlink had been crucial to Ukraine’s communications during the war with Russia, but Musk’s controversial actions—such as proposing a pro-Russian peace plan and allegedly interfering with Starlink during Ukrainian offensives—have raised doubts about his support for Ukraine.
Additionally, reports claim Russian forces are using Musk’s satellites, which Musk has denied.
The Ukrainian coalition argues Musk’s influence could lead to regulatory favor for his businesses, potentially pressuring the FCC and other agencies.
SpaceX has not responded to the petition, and Musk has remained silent on DOGE’s activities.
