Police in St. Charles, Illinois, fatally shot a man who threatened residents at an assisted living facility and responding officers with a chainsaw.

Officers were dispatched to the River Glen of St. Charles facility around 8:45 a.m. Sunday after reports of a shirtless man with a chainsaw attempting to cut down a tree.

Witnesses said he confronted residents in the lobby with the weapon.

Despite attempts to deescalate the situation and the use of a stun gun, the man continued his threats.

An officer then shot him.

He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s identity has not been released, and it’s unclear if he had any connection to the facility.

Several people, including residents and officers, suffered minor injuries.

The Illinois State Police are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
