The family of Malcolm X has filed a $100 million lawsuit against several agencies, including the CIA, FBI, and NYPD, over his 1965 assassination in New York City.
Malcolm X was shot while speaking at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem in front of his family.
The family’s lawsuit alleges a conspiracy involving government agencies, which they claim had prior knowledge of threats to his life but did nothing to prevent the killing.
At the time, journalist Stanley Scott reported that Malcolm X had warned of a conspiracy targeting him.
Three men, including Thomas Hagan (Talmadge Hayer), were arrested for the assassination, with Hagan admitting involvement.
However, two others, Muhammad Abdul Aziz and Khalil Islam, denied any role and were later exonerated in 2021 after new evidence and declassified documents revealed that crucial evidence had been withheld by authorities.
Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who is representing Malcolm X’s children, claims that the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover and the CIA were complicit in reducing protection for Malcolm X by using undercover agents within the Nation of Islam, the group he had previously belonged to.
Crump believes the new evidence will help bring accountability for the assassination.
