Cristin Milioti, known for The Sopranos, Once, and How I Met Your Mother, plays the mob boss Sofia in The Penguin, a DC Comics adaptation. Sofia shares a complex and intriguing dynamic with the titular villain, Oswald “The Penguin” Cobblepot (played by Colin Farrell), due to their shared history and similar experiences of being underestimated.

Both characters are extremely smart, have been overlooked in the past, and are adept at reading each other—leading to a “cat and mouse” relationship that is as compelling to perform as it is for viewers.

Milioti described the role as “endlessly rewarding,” especially as a lifelong Batman fan. Despite her initial nerves about how the show would be received, she’s thrilled by its success and the strong fan response.

The series, which wraps up its first season on Max, follows Penguin’s struggle to gain control of Gotham’s underworld while navigating rivalries with other crime lords, including Sofia.
