Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has shared his thoughts on how long he wants to live on earth, revealing that he has categorically rejected prayers for a longer lifespan than a century.
During a sermon, the revered cleric mentioned how some of his followers prayed for him to live to different ages. He stated that when they prayed for him to reach the age of 80, he responded with a heartfelt “Amen.”
Similarly, when they prayed for him to live to be 90, he accepted the prayer. However, as the number increased, his response changed.
Pastor Adeboye stated that when someone prayed for him to live to be 100 years old, he chose not to respond. When another enthusiastic follower prayed for him to live up to 120 years, he flatly refused, questioning why God would keep him on earth for another 50 years.
The pastor told a funny story about a woman who, in her excitement, prayed for him to live to be 140 years old. In response to the prayer, Adeboye said he completely rejected the idea, emphasizing that the world is full of problems.
Pastor Adeboye explains why he does not want to live beyond 100.
“When I was 70 years old, some of my children began to pray for me.” And they said, ‘Daddy, you will live to be 80,’ and I said Amen. ‘You will live to be 90,’ I said, “Amen.” They said, ‘You will live to be 100,’ I didn’t answer them.
“And then one fellow got excited and said, ‘You will live to be 120,’ I told him a lie! What will God say I did wrong? I’ve been here for 70 years; will he keep me for another 50? In this world?
“Where do you have electricity today, but not tomorrow? But there was one lady who got really excited and said, ‘You will live to be 140,’ and I said, ‘Not me.'”
