An Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court has adjourned the case against popular musician Habeeb Okikiola, a.k.a. Portable, until March 26 to allow the prosecution to combine his charges with those of his employees.
When the case against the artist resumed on Wednesday after his earlier arraignment on Feb. 20, the prosecution informed the court that hearing Portable’s and his workers’ cases separately would be a waste of time.
Mr. Timileyin Oredein, Senior State Counsel, informed the court that Portable’s case had a sister case that needed to be merged before the trial began.
Oredein reminded the court that the musician and nine of his employees were arraigned on similar charges on February 6.
He stated that trying the defendants separately would waste time.
Oredein asked the court for a short deadline for the charges to be merged and substituted.
Portable and his workers were charged with five counts of conspiracy, assault, unlawful obstruction with cutlasses and a gun, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
They were also charged with allegedly assaulting three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
